Its history is rooted in Greek mythology. According to legend, the artichoke derives from Cynara, a young muse with ash-colored hair loved by Zeus. Faced with the maiden’s refusal to reciprocate his love, the father of the gods transformed her into a thorny flower, destined to preserve forever her beauty and indomitable character. From this ancient narrative also stems the tradition that attributes aphrodisiac and symbolic virtues to the artichoke.
