From Etna to the Sea by Elisa Messina

From Etna to the Sea

Elisa Messina and Maria Grazia Bonsignore, Monreale

Height: 25 cm
Color: Lava red, blue, green
Handmade

Entirely handmade using the ancient coiling technique, this spherical crater vessel is a work that narrates the landscape and soul of Sicily. The incised surfaces and intensely toned glazes evoke the dialogue between the volcanic force of Mount Etna and the depths of the sea: the blue of the waters, the green of Mediterranean vegetation, and the red-purple hues of lava earth merge into a harmonious and textured composition.

The spherical form, enriched with openings and organic reliefs, gives the work a strong sculptural presence, making it both a decorative and functional object. The artist uses it as a centerpiece or as a flower holder, welcoming hibiscus from her own garden in a continuous dialogue between art and nature.

A unique piece that celebrates the colors, forms, and evocations of the Sicilian land, transforming a utilitarian object into a contemporary sculpture of powerful evocative impact.
