“U Naniddu” is an anthropomorphic flask that interprets one of the most characteristic subjects of the Collesano ceramic tradition. The figure, inspired by a caricature of a 16th-century French gendarme, is reinterpreted through an expressive and folk language that enhances its ironic and narrative character.

The work is part of Collesano’s historical production, recognizable by the use of typical copper green and straw yellow tones that dialogue with the natural color of terracotta. The rich sculptural modeling and attention to detail transform the artifact into an almost theatrical presence, capable of telling stories, traditions, and memories of the territory.

While maintaining a strong link with the local artisanal heritage, “U Naniddu” offers a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional iconography. The artist reworks forms and meanings through their own creative sensitivity, creating a work that combines identity, craftsmanship, and expressive exploration.

In this figure, the memory of Collesano’s ceramic culture coexists with the ability of contemporary craftsmanship to renew itself, confirming the role of ceramics as an instrument for storytelling, interpretation, and enhancement of Sicilian heritage.
