Open-air workshops, live decorations, cultural moments: Santo Stefano di Camastra celebrates ceramics

Santo Stefano di Camastra, June 25, 2024 – A celebration of ceramics and its artisans. In Santo Stefano di Camastra, for two weekends (June 29-30 and July 6-7), the event “Ceramics Under the Stars” will take place. A double appointment to celebrate the art of ceramists, with live sessions to create and decorate ceramic objects, cultural and educational moments, activities for adults and children, as well as good music and a theatrical performance.

“We continue our journey of enhancement and promotion of our ceramics – says Santo Stefano councilor Fausto Pellegrino – We worked on this initiative together with Mayor Francesco Re and fellow councilor Alessandro Amoroso. The objective is not only to tell the story of this art of ceramics that is lost in the mists of time. But also to speak about the future and potential of this sector, especially for our young people who attend the art high school and who, thanks to the intervention of Principal Antoci, are rediscovering their passion for shaping and decorating artistic ceramics. Ceramics can and must continue to make itself heard.”

A natural continuation of the activities implemented to promote Santo Stefano ceramics and those of other municipalities that believe in this project.

The “Ceramics Under the Stars” event was preceded some time ago by another “twin” event, “Good Morning Ceramics.” And the ceramics of Santo Stefano, together with those of Monreale, Collesano, Sciacca, Burgio, and Caltagirone, were the protagonists at BIT in Milan, where they unveiled the “passport,” the perfect tool not only to promote these unique objects in the world, but also the artistic and cultural beauties of these municipalities.

“A natural continuation of the activities implemented to promote Santo Stefano ceramics and those of other municipalities that believe in this project – says Pellegrino – We strongly wanted to dedicate two weekends to our master ceramists and their productions, trying not to create a simple trade fair or exhibition, but making adults and children protagonists who will be able to experience the world of ceramics in a unique way.” The most anticipated moment “Let’s Get Our Hands Dirty” (June 29-30 and July 6-7 from 10 AM to 4 PM) will take place on Via Umberto. These are decoration and ceramics workshops open to everyone. Together with experts, participants will be able to shape clay, as well as decorate ready-made pieces to be fired. On June 29, at 7:30 PM at Palazzo Trabia, the opening of the exhibition “Solar Cults” by Mario Lo Coco. On June 30, at 6:30 PM, also at Palazzo Trabia, the round table entitled “Design, decorations, and the art of master potters. What ceramics for the markets of the new millennium?” “A very important and strongly desired appointment – says Councilor Pellegrino – When we talk about ceramics, we don’t think about what the new productions could be, true modern design objects. And ceramics can still give much in the field of interior design.” Following this, the ceramics passport will be unveiled. At 9 PM, in Piazza Duca di Camastra, the musical performance “F&F Duo” with two-time world accordion champion Pietro Adragna and Chiara Sernesi. On July 7, at 6:30 PM at Palazzo Trabia, the opening of the exhibition “Draw a Nursery Rhyme,” curated by children from the Santo Stefano di Camastra comprehensive school. And at 9 PM, in Piazza Duca di Camastra, the comedy “The Return of Diabolik,” presented by the Nisseno Stable Theater. All events are free.
