Sicilian artistic ceramics become a tourist route. Presentation of the Sicilian Ceramic Routes passport at the International Tourism Exchange in Milan

Palermo, 2024-02-02 – Sicilian artistic ceramics set out to conquer the Milan BIT, as the International Tourism Exchange prepares to open the doors of its 44th edition. Organized by Fiera Milano, the event, designed to engage both travelers and industry professionals, is scheduled to take place at the Allianz MiCo in Milan from Sunday, February 4, to Tuesday, February 6. The ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday morning will take place in the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè.

This year, the Sicily pavilion will also host the municipalities of Burgio (AG), Caltagirone (CT), Collesano (PA), Monreale (PA), Santo Stefano di Camastra (ME), and Sciacca (AG). These towns have united under the aegis of the Italian Association of Cities of Ceramics (AiCC) and will bring “The Sicilian Ceramic Routes” to the BIT for the first time—a synergistic itinerary that ideally connects the Sicilian municipalities renowned for artistic ceramic production to develop a new type of experiential tourism capable of combining travel, art, culture, and tradition. On Sunday, February 4, at 4:00 PM, the “Sicilian Ceramic Routes Passport” will be previewed at the Milan BIT. This document is issued by the six Sicilian cities registered with the Italian Association of Cities of Ceramics to promote tourism related to artistic ceramics, which will be the protagonists of the Sicily pavilion this year, also thanks to a valuable exhibition of highly prized unique pieces from the six municipalities.

“We are opening the doors of our Island by introducing a delegation of tour operators, travelers, and industry professionals to a truly Sicilian excellence: Sicilian ceramics, a symbol of our potters’ craftsmanship,” explain the mayors of Burgio, Caltagirone, Collesano, Monreale, Santo Stefano di Camastra, and Sciacca. “At the Milan BIT, we will present ourselves united as the Sicilian Ceramic Routes to showcase the wide and diverse tourism offer of our territory, with the aim of increasing national and international visitor numbers. We intend to give a different momentum to Sicilian tourism by enhancing reception, hospitality, accommodation, and the construction of a welcome system centered on an identity-driven and highly attractive element such as our artistic ceramics.”
